International recognition: research group in Climate Ethics of the Sant'Anna School mentioned in the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) Annual Report 2022, the most important report on climate change

Prestigious recognition for the research group in Climate Ethics of the Dirpolis (Law, Politics, Development) Institute of the Sant'Anna School. The study "Energy Justice Revisited: A Critical Review on the Philosophical and Political Origins of Equality" has received a mention in the context of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) Annual Report 2022, the most important report on climate change prepared by a research team consisting of hundreds of researchers and promoted under the aegis of the United Nation Framework for Climate Change Convention (UNFCCC).

The study, published in the prestigious journal Energy Research and Social Sciences, was authored by Giuseppe Pellegrini Masini, former researcher at Sant'Anna School, today Professor of Social Sciences at the University of Trondheim (Norway), Stefano Maran, first researcher at the Research Center on the Energy System (RSE), and Alberto Pirni, Associate Professor of Public Ethics and Climate Ethics at Sant'Anna School and coordinator of the research area in "Ethics and Global Challenges" at the Dirpolis Institute.

In the context of a rapidly growing debate in relation to the climate change issue, the essay is focused on a better definitional framing of the concept of energy justice, referring to the entire tradition of Western moral and political thought, with particular reference to the concept of equality. It is, in this framework, reconsidered the dual signification of equality (formal and substantive), in order to update and further integrate the more unanimously established paradigm of distributive justice, also with a view to an overall reconsideration of the topic, which has unfortunately become even more stringently topical due to the current international situation.
